BAHHC Biography:
The Bay Area Hip-Hop Coalition is a nonprofit mutual benefit corporation which promotes education and awareness of hip-hop music and culture to the public through educational programs, public relations, concerts, news media, and internet related activities
BAHHC was established in 1988 to organize and unite both non-commercial radio and mobile DJs in the Bay Area to collectively embrace local and national hip-hop/rap artists whose music was shunned at commercial radio. Over the last ten years, BAHHC has fostered and promoted the expansion of Bay Area college and community hip-hop/rap radio shows, from 3 to a current 68 programs, collectively totaling over 170 hours of hip-hop/rap radio programming weekly. These various college and community radio programs have evolved to become the most stable and consistent voice of the Bay Area hip-hop/rap community. BAHHC's support of college and community radio has led to BAHHC working with organizations such as The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) and the Bay Chapter of the Rock the Vote Campaign on various community projects involving local youth. As a result, BAHHC is now recognized on both national and international levels as an organization which embraces independence, diversity, and commitment when it comes to local hip-hop/rap radio and community service involving youth.
